We live in a world obsessed with the “hustle.” We are told to pick a lane, build a brand, and run as fast as we can. But what happens when you’re running a race that doesn’t actually belong to you?
As a coach, my work isn’t about giving people a roadmap or a checklist. It’s about creating a space for meaningful conversations; the kind that strip away the noise, challenge assumptions, and help you uncover your real purpose.
Often, the biggest obstacle to finding our true calling isn’t a lack of ambition; it’s a beautifully wrapped distraction.
The Trap of the “Good Idea”
A lot of people come to me feeling stuck, not because they are failing, but because their “success” feels hollow. They’ve built a career or a project around something they thought they loved, only to realize they love the idea of it more than the reality.
Take a recent client of mine, a talented content creator. When we first sat down, she was working herself to the bone as a travel vlogger. On paper, she was living the dream:
- Jetting off to beautiful destinations.
- Exploring new cultures.
- Building a growing audience of envious followers.
Yet, she was exhausted, burnt out, and hitting a massive creative wall. She felt guilty for feeling miserable. After all, isn’t travel what everyone wants?
Peeling Back the Layers
During our sessions, we didn’t focus on her analytics or her editing style. Instead, we had deep, honest conversations about energy, joy, and friction.
I asked her to walk me through her days on the road. Where did her energy spike? Where did it plummet?
As we talked, a fascinating pattern emerged. The logistics of travel including the airports, the packing, the scouting of scenic backdrops actually drained her. But the moment she started talking about the food she ate during those trips? Her face lit up. Her posture changed. Her voice found a whole new level of enthusiasm.
“I realized she wasn’t traveling to see the world,” I told her during one of our breakthroughs. “She was traveling just to get to the next plate.”
From Travel to Taste: The Real Purpose Unlocked
Through our conversations, she finally had the epiphany she had been running from: Travel was just the vehicle; food was the destination. Food reviews were her true forte.
Once she accepted this, the relief was palpable. She didn’t need to stress over booking flights to exotic islands just for content. She could find her purpose right in her local culinary scene, deep-diving into the stories, flavors, and cultures behind the dishes.
She pivot her content, re-branded her channel, and the results were immediate. Not only did her engagement soar, but more importantly, her creative burnout vanished. She was aligned.
What’s Your “Food Review”?
My job as a coach is not to tell you who you are. It’s to hold up a mirror and ask the right questions until you see it.
If you are feeling uninspired by your current path, ask yourself:
- Am I in love with the process, or just the title?
- Where does my energy naturally flow when no one is watching?
- What is the “hidden ingredient” in my work that actually brings me joy?
Sometimes, you don’t need a complete life overhaul. You just need a meaningful conversation to help you pivot toward what you were truly meant to do. I am a conversationalist and I listen to what you are aiming at!
